Based in Leicester, Rieke Packaging Systems forms part of an international network of strategic businesses designing and manufacturing speciality packaging for the medical and care industries as well as household names like Starbucks, McDonald’s, L’Oreal, Nestle and Boots.

The situation

Rieke, a profitable company with over 40 years of trading, had found themselves launching a series of new products onto the market with varying degrees of success. Although experts in the design and manufacture of packaging products, the company was lacking the marketing skills to maximise the potential of their goods on an international stage.

The solution

Seeking support from the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) in 2007, Rieke were introduced to Angela as one of the specialist business advisors for the High Growth programme. She provided strategic advice and marketing support on how to launch and promote new products as well as developing a communications strategy for the business.

The results

With help from Angela, Rieke was able to enjoy unprecedented growth in three years, effectively doubling the size of the business over three years. In 2008, the company grew turnover from £12.9 million to just over £20 million with aspirations of reaching £30 million by 2012.

“Manufacturing these products in the UK, it was clear we needed to launch these products internationally to stand a chance and Angela was brilliant in helping us promote and market ourselves.
“We were able to double the size of our business in three years as well as winning the Growth Readiness award at the High Growth East Midlands Awards 2009.”
